Performance

Fuel-Efficient MIVEC Engines

The Lancer Sportback's all-aluminum Mitsubishi Innovative Valve Timing Electronic Control (MIVEC) engines are engineered to deliver all the MPH you can handle with surprising MPG. Choose the 2.0 liter, 148-hp engine in the ES and get a highly economical 32 MPG highway.† Or step it up to the GT, for a 2.4-liter, 168-HP engine that still delivers 29 MPG**. There's just no trade off.

Continuously Variable Transmission

Our Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) can be summed up in a single word: smart. This belt-driven system constantly adjusts the gear ratio to keep the engine running at the optimum RPMs for any speed. That means you get maximum performance and excellent fuel economy at the same time. But the CVT doesn't stop there. It also features INVECS-III, a control system that is so advanced, it actually learns how you drive and can anticipate your every move.

Sport-Tuned Suspensions

The Lancer Sportback combines MacPherson struts in front with a finely tuned, multi-link suspension in the rear. Why? So you don't have to compromise between superb handling and a comfortable ride. Whether you're hugging the curves on a mountain road or driving over an unexpected pothole, the Lancer Sportback always stays smooth, solid and responsive.

Available Magnesium Paddle Shifters

Borrowed from our rally heritage and included with our CVT transmission, steering-column-mounted magnesium paddle shifters merge the thrill and control of manual shifting with the convenience and ease of an automatic. You can downshift or upshift with a tap of your finger…no rally experience necessary. So why magnesium? Two reasons: it looks cool, and it stays cool, even if you park your Lancer Sportback in direct sunlight.

Strong Body

The body of the Lancer Sportback offers two types of strength, each serving an important purpose. Its exceptional structural strength helps to improve safety and extend the long-term life of your car. And then there's the torsional strength, which allows the Lancer Sportback to respond to the twists and turns of the road, for superb handling across a wide range of road conditions.

Appearance

Mitsubishi Design

Mitsubishi Design

The Lancer Sportback blends superior craftsmanship with Mitsubishi innovation to make every detail count. The aggressive hood and front bumper are carefully engineered to increase underbody airflow for high-speed stability and improved fuel economy. The 18-inch wheels lend your Lancer GT a commanding look, and they also help it handle better on tight curves. Meanwhile, the available Xenon HID headlamps are bright and beautiful, but they're also surprisingly efficient. Overall? It's clean, smart and simple—pure Mitsubishi design.

Thule® Sport-Rack Sockets

Thule® Sport-Rack Sockets

Most of the time, you'll find that 52.7 cubic feet of cargo space is more than plenty. For those other times, you can take advantage of the Thule® Sport-Rack Sockets that come standard with every Lancer Sportback. They can accommodate a wide range of highly aerodynamic Thule® roof racks, including models specifically designed for carrying bikes, luggage, water toys, snow gear, and much more. So no matter what you're into, consider yourself covered.

European Flair

European Flair

With its distinctive European styling, it's easy to imagine the Lancer Sportback cruising along the cobblestoned streets of Paris. The aggressive front end, rising lines and rear spoiler give it a sporty sophistication that you wouldn't expect in a car with such a large cargo hold. Look closer and you'll find that every detail—from the angled headlamps to the twin exhausts—is carefully crafted to attract the right kind of attention. So forget Paris. The Sportback looks good just about everywhere.

18-inch Alloy Wheels

18-inch Alloy Wheels

Many of the Lancer Sportback's most memorable details aren't just for looks. The GT's 18-inch wheels may smooth out its European lines, but they also improve traction and handling on almost any terrain.

HID Headlamps

HID Headlamps

HID projector headlamps are more than good looking. At night, they provide superior lighting that gives you confidence on dark roads. During the day, the light quality of the xenon (a gas used in HID technology) closely mimics sunlight providing more definition and creating less eye fatigue. Best of all, you get all of these HID improvements while consuming less power.

Upgrade to seats with side bolsters and more position adjustments in the GT. Or get the ultimate in style and comfort with the full leather, heated front seats in the Touring Package.

Space to Spare

With all of the eye-catching style on the outside, it's easy to miss something big on the inside. Space. The Lancer Sportback has a maximum cargo capacity of 52.7 cubic feet, giving you plenty of room for whatever you want to take with you. And with 60/40 split-fold rear seats, a dual level cargo floor that can drop an extra three inches and a one-touch release lever, all that room comes with plenty of convenience, too.

Safety & Warranty

10-Year 100,000-Mile Limited Powertrain Warranty*

The engine, transmission and other powertrain components are covered for 10 years or 100,000 miles, whichever comes first. To keep you on the road, Mitsubishi also offers a 5-year, 60,000-mile New Vehicle Limited Warranty and a 7-year, 100,000-mile anti-corrosion perforation limited warranty.

* All coverage terms are from the original in-service date. The 10-year/100,000 mile Limited Powertrain Warranty applies only to the original owner of new, retailed 2012 models purchased from an authorized Mitsubishi retailer. Subsequent owners receive the balance of the New Vehicle Limited Warranty of 5 years/60,000 miles. See retailer for limited warranty and roadside assistance terms and conditions.

Active Stability Control‡

The standard Active Stability Control (ASC) system constantly monitors traction between the tires and the road. On detecting slippage or a loss of control, ASC alerts the control unit, which applies the brakes on individual wheels to help keep the vehicle moving in your intended direction.

‡ Safety is a two-way street. It requires your attention and cooperation. Please remember to fasten your safety belt, drive responsibly and obey all traffic laws.

Superior Braking & Control Systems

The Anti-lock Braking System (ABD) with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD)‡ helps keep you in control—no matter what the road brings. ABS constantly monitors wheel speed and applies up to ten pulses per second to prevent lock-up during hard braking. EBD adds intelligent controls that can shift the braking force between the front and rear wheels on an instant-by-instant basis. Working together, they can reduce skidding and increase control, even while turning.

Anti-Theft Alarm System

The Lancer Sportback is equipped with an integrated anti-theft alarm system that features an "immobilizer" security key. Each key carries an embedded wireless tag with a unique code for the engine control unit. If the engine doesn't recognize the wireless key, it won't start. And that's just one of many deterrents in this world-class integrated anti-theft system.

Seven Standard Airbags**

Innovation shouldn’t only come under the hood. In addition to six airbags that help protect the front and sides of your passengers, the Lancer Sportback adds a seventh under the driver’s dash, designed to help stabilize your lower legs and body in certain types of frontal collisions.

** Airbags are part of a Supplemental Restraint System (SRS). To decrease the risk of injury from a deploying airbag, always wear your seatbelt, sit upright in the middle of the seat and do not lean against the door. Always place children 12 and under in the rear seat and use appropriate child restraints. Never place a rear facing infant restraint in the front seat. See your owner's manual and instructions provided with your child restraint for additional information.
